A native of Southern Vancouver Island, Mr. McKay was first called to the bar in 2000 and has practiced criminal defence law continously since that time. Mr. McKay got his start practicing criminal defense law in Toronto, Ontario where he spent three years appearing on a wide variety of criminal and quasi-criminal matters. In 2003, Mr. McKay made the decision to move back to British Columbia and now lives with his family in Victoria.

In January 2004, Mr. McKay opened the doors to Donald J. McKay Law Corporation - intent on delivering timely, high quality, legal representation and advice to all manner of clients in need of a top-notch criminal defense counsel.

Mr. McKay has appeared, and continues to represent clients, at all levels of court in British Columbia. These include the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the British Columbia Supreme Court, and British Columbia Court of Appeal. Mr. McKay also currently has matters before the Supreme Court of Canada.

Mr. McKay's practice is exclusive to matters of a criminal and quasi-criminal nature, especially where a trial lawyer may be required. He successfully argues cases on Vancouver Island and the lower mainland and has recently represented clients in such places as New Westminister, Duncan, Vancouver, the Western Communities, and appears regularly in the Victoria Law Courts.
